It sounds so disgusting when people say, “to become something in life, you first have to go to school”.
Whenever I hear people say that, the question that always popped into my mind is, “how or why on earth is school the only pathway to a successful life?”
And for those I’ve asked the question, no one has ever been able to give me a convincing answer.
What they usually concluded on is that one can’t compare the thinking of someone who go to school, to that of the person who doesn’t.
And that’s exactly what I’m most especially concerned about.
Now, what’s that thing that actually makes the thinking of those who go to school different?
In order not to waste your time, the thing is, majority of people can’t distinguish between school and education.
It is wrong to say that, “to become something in life, you first have to go to school”. It’s really a bad idea.
The correct saying is; “to become something in life, you first have to be educated”.
It is education that makes you think in a certain, different way. Not school.
School and education are two different things entirely. School is just a place for learning; to acquire knowledge. But, It is not an education itself.
Moreso, school isn’t the only place to acquire knowledge. For the fact that you’re a graduate doesn’t always guarantee you’re also educated.
In short, not all those who finished from school came out being educated. Many are just graduates.
Whereas, some people never have a college or a university degree, but are educated.
A typical example is that Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg who all dropped out of college.
We can’t regard them as graduates. They have not, a college or university certificate. But they are educated.
If you many ask:
How can a person with a college or university certificate be regarded as a graduate, yet deny him of being educated?
Napoleon Hill said in his book, “Think and Grow Rich”, that “an educated man is not, necessarily, one who has abundance of general or specialized knowledge. An educated man is one who has so developed the faculties of his mind that he may acquire anything he wants or its equivalent, without violating the right of others”.
And he also said in this same book that, “any man is educated who knows where to get knowledge when he needs it, and how to organize that knowledge into definite plans of action”.
Educated people are meant to lead their field. But it turns out that many just want to work, regardless of their field of study. All they are much concerned about is money.
I once met a lady sometimes ago, she told me she’s looking for job. I asked what she studied, she told me Chemistry.
I further asked her what kind of job she’s looking for. To her response, she said just any job that pays nothing less than #50k.
It’s not a crime to work under an organization if you are leading your field, but don’t you think it’s insane to see someone who studied, for example, law, or chemistry, ended up working behind the counter in a bank?
What is he looking for?
This is what made me said that not all graduates are educated.
If you want to go school, go with genuine reasons other than for certification or qualification to get better opportunities.
We need more of starters and leaders.
This is exactly what make Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and the rest of them exceptional.
They all knew school can’t give them the kind of education they wanted. So instead of wasting their precious years, they dropped out and build themselves to what they are today.
If you, however, also want to be exceptional, don’t depend on school as the only source or place to acquire knowledge.
Don’t think attainment of college or university degree is the end to the road.
For the fact that you can work anywhere regardless of the course you studied in school, you can likewise choose to know anything you want to know, and become whatever you desired to become.
This is 21st century, you can learn just about anything right from where you are. Without leaving your house, while sitting right in your bed.
The access to information is easier and faster than before.
I could remember my lecturer was telling me sometimes ago that when he was still in school, he could spend days visiting the library, searching different books for a piece of information, and he might ended up not getting what he wanted.
But today, with few clicks, we can have access to whatever we want. If we know exactly what we’re looking for.
The most important thing is to always give out whatever knowledge you acquired in any form you think is appropriate.
That’s the primary goal of knowledge.
Teach what you know. Start something. Just do anything that will improve the lives of others.
You don’t need any certification to do that, and you need nobody’s permission, as long as you know where to get the knowledge, and how to use it and transform it into definite plans of action.
People will appreciate you, and you will be rewarded beyond your imagination.
Is it money you want? Trust me, it’s just a little out the opportunity that will awaits you. Opportunity will starts seeking you.
That’s the only way to live a freedom lifestyle.
